2020Plus "Bad News?" Study

Thanks for your interest in the 2020Plus Public Study on bad news in the media.

Aim: To measure the incidence of certain emotive words in TV or Internet broadcast news coverage.

(Watch the short video or read the background behind the study.)

Process: You are requested to:

  1. Watch one or more news broadcasts before Sunday, October 16 on any TV channel or online. (Please do not watch the same 'rolling' news programme more than once over a single day, as news scripts are usually repeated.)

  2. Choose one or more of the words below and count how many times they are used.  NOTE: please also include words used in the scrolling news bar and strapline at the bottom of the screen.  (We are not including radio or online text reports in this study).
  • crisis
  • emergency
  • disaster / disastrous
  • recession / recessionary / depression
  • desperate
  1. Please tell us: the name of the programme, the name of the channel and the number of times you heard the word(s) mentioned.  Please tweet OR email your  findings to:
  • Twitter: @malfletcher
  • Email: study@2020plus.net

The study will close on Sunday October 16. We will let you know what the study turns up!

THANK YOU!
